About Us

Rathmore was settled in 1828 by Henry Bowden Torlesse and his wife (from Rathmore House in Ireland) when it was set up with all the “appurtenances” of an English Farm. This “sheep walk” was “...picturesque, grand and enlivening, differing from those many parts of the Island which appear to have been the work of chance” according to the Colonial Times Hobart 7 Nov 1837.

Rathmore was sold to Richard Allwright whose descendants ran sheep and cattle for the next 150 years. We are now the fortunate custodians and invite you to share a fabulous lunch with amazing paired local wines, far from the madding crowd, just one hour from Hobart. Rathmore is convenient to most parts of Tasmania being located in the stunning Central Highlands and Upper Derwent Valley - the Tasmanian Heartlands - being the geographic and historical heart of the island.
